What is Pink Tequila?

What is pink tequila, or rosa tequila? Is it tequila made from roses? Is it dyed pink for fun? There are so many questions about this new tequila style that we just had to find the answers for. People often mistake the word rosa for roses when in fact, rosa means pink in Spanish. So, pink tequila is NOT made from roses, unfortunately, but that sounds pretty delish. I’ve found that pink tequila has two different categories- the first is tequila that is aged in used red wine barrels which leaves a slight tint that turns the finished tequila pink. Second, some brands infuse red fruit or blend juice into the finished tequila to make it pink. In my naturalist, pink obsessed, wine-loving fashion, I prefer to enjoy the barrel aged tequila brands over the mixed juice and fruit infusion brands. The barrel aged styles would be best enjoyed sipped neat or on the rocks while the infused styles would make for yummy cocktails. Both pink tequila styles would look great on your back bar, that's for sure. I think I need to start a pink tequila collection...

Komos Reposado Rosa Tequila is aged in the finest French oak red wine barrels for two months to create a Reposado unlike any other, then aerates to make the mouthfeel softer and rounder, adding the slightest impression of natural sweetness. The liquid is transformed to a beautiful pink hue, with a rich palate awash in dark berries and cocoa. The iconic bottle is handmade vitrified porcelain and is meant to be upcycled to live on long after you have finished enjoying what lies within.

Big, round and plush on the palate, the fresh agave flavors are met with vanilla, butterscotch, and a dry dark chocolate note. Blackberries, plums, and dark cherries leap out of the glass. The finish is long, rich, and very smooth, leaving the impression of chocolate covered strawberries behind it.
